Mike Wang Yong

Celebrated Dancer, Choreographer, and Ballet Teacher

 

Mike Wang Yong's exceptional talent and artistry have captivated audiences around the world.  His illustrious career in dance has spanned decades and continents, leaving a lasting mark on the dance community.

 

Born in Shanghai, China, Mike's passion for dance began at a young age. He trained at the Shanghai Dance School, graduating in 1988, and continued his studies at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. His exceptional talent quickly propelled him to the international stage. He danced with " Le Jeune Ballet De France" in Paris and worked with well known French choreographer Jean-christophe Maillot at Centre Choregraphique National de Tours in France. He then returned to Asia and joined the Hong Kong Ballet Company as a Principal Dancer until 2003, performing leading roles in numerous classical ballets.

 

Mike's influence extends beyond performing. He is a Ballet Master for the Asian Grand Prix International Ballet Competition and a Senior Teacher at the Hong Kong Youth Ballet Academy, where he plays a crucial role in shaping the future of ballet by identifying and nurturing exceptional talent. Mike also is a faculty member at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and remains an active performer and choreographer.

 

In addition to his artistic achievements, Mike has demonstrated exceptional leadership and organizational skills. In 2016 and 2017, he served as the Operation Director of Asian Grand Prix International Ballet Competition.

 

His enduring legacy and profound impact on the world of dance have earned him numerous accolades, including being named one of the "Outstanding Dance Artists" in the 'Hong Kong Dance Hall of Fame' by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
